The Star Trek Association of Towson (STAT) is a club where science fiction fans gather and socialize through monthly club meetings and an annual convention. Although founded in 1978 by Star Trek fans, STAT long ago broadened its interest to include all SF television shows, movies, books, and science. We put on the Shore Leave convention every July - it is one of the biggest fan-run SF conventions in the Eastern USA. The upcoming convention in July of 2010 marks our 32nd anniversary!
A group for anyone and everyone who loves Science Fiction, Fantasy and Comic Books! Whether you're a hardcore Trekkie or you just happen to have read Lord of the Rings (only ten times!) this is the group for you. We're fans of all things geeky: movies, books, comics and tv. So you've named your cat "Q". The bumper sticker on your car reads "My other car is the Millenium Falcon". You start affecting a British accent after watching Doctor Who. You own dice that have more than six sides. You sometimes mutter spells under your breath and marvel that they don't work (if they do work... I wanna meet you). You secretly hope to bitten by a radioactive spider or wish you could go on a quest for Shikon Jewel shards. And you might even have more toys now than you ever had as …

We are a group of writers who enjoy imaginative, perhaps even offbeat, fiction. Our goal is to write well--or at least better--but with the freedom to make mistakes. We are not here to necessarily produce polished, publishable fiction, but to rather to carve out a space where writers can experiment and have fun in a relaxed and supportive environment. Speculative fiction--which includes science fiction, supernatural horror, steampunk, dystopian fiction, magical realism, fantastic allegory, and …

From Andrew: While living on the west coast, I discovered the "Geek Club", a place for all things to please the inner geek in all of us! When I moved out here, I wanted to find something like that and I started this group. Our event types are really dependent on what the members ask for. Video games, museums, boardgames, movies & book discussions, it's all fair game! The group is open to all ages, genotypes, prototypes, and even meeples! From Michael: Lived here all my life, and wanted to help …

This group is for those who love fantasy, supernatural and paranormal romance. Some of my favorites are Anne Rice, Charlaine Harris, Karen Moning, J.R. Ward. We will read and discuss a different novel. We can also discuss lore, legend and non-fiction as well. Our bookclub meetings are informal and all opinions on the books we choose are welcome. At the end of each meetup, we'll decide what to read next.

If you are like me then you may have grown up on comics. We have also seen comics expand into movies, games, digital etc. Over the years, I have gone from DC to Marvel, currently a combination of both plus some new comers. DC has quite a few comics’ book stores, but they aren’t the places to sit back and discuss our experience. I suggest getting together at a local restaurant and having an open discussion on classic story lines and new/up to date material. Feel free to contact me if you have oth …

I want this to be a content rich envirionment and I plan on starting some related topics on the discussion boards. If anyone would like to help with organizing or adding content, message me!
I decided to start this group in honor of the growing popularity of young adult fantasy novels in popular culture! Now, more than ever, young adult fantasy has been undergoing a renaissance, with book series like Harry Potter leading to an explosion in creative ya literature. Authors like Suzanne Collins, Cassandra Clare, Libba Bray, Holly Black, and more have been writing books that use fantasy to explore a wide array of themes and topics, from dystopian futures to forbidden love. This book …

Our focus is on Medieval English Literature, but we will read various genres, and make occasional pilgrimages to the continent. The format follows that of "Great Books" Seminars (please read). We are the oxymoron to the geek and nerd stereotype - the "social" nerds and the "chic" geeks. Sure, we love Battlestar Galactica, but that doesn't mean we can't hold our own at a high class social function. Yes, we can debate the finer points of whether Han shot first, but we can also jump into the fray and talk about the latest in pop culture. Although we can explain the relation between a "Hobbit" and a "Halfling" to someone, it doesn't mean that we locked ourselves away from society and stud …

Interested in meeting some cool nerds? That depends on who you define as a nerd, you may ask. You also may wonder who is welcome in the Geeks and Gaymers (spelling intentional) group. While my intention is to create a more LGBT-inclined group of friends, straight allies are very welcome as well. Nerds? Anyone who enjoys any or many of a plethora of interests, including but not limited to: Board Games, Science Fiction (Books, Films, TV, etc), Fantasy (Books/Graphic Novels, Films, TV), Speculative …
I'd like to re-read all of the books in ASOIAF with others who have already read them. The first time through i went too fast and would like to slow down and read them with others. I would also like to read the last two books (AFFC and ADWD) with a combined chapter reading list that puts the chapters in the correct order. We could decide on the pace and how often to get together.
